Haunted AL

Haunted places in Alabama

Alabama ghost lore grows out of its industrial past and its antebellum towns, where furnace workers and grieving families are said to linger long after dark.

Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark

Former ironworks Birmingham, AL

Sloss Furnaces produced pig iron from 1882 until 1971 and is now a museum and National Historic Landmark. Local legend holds that a harsh foreman nicknamed "Slag" still prowls the catwalks, and night-shift stories of pushes and voices have circulated for decades, though historians have found little to confirm the tale.

Visiting: Open as a free museum with a seasonal Halloween haunted attraction; check the official site for schedules.

Sturdivant Hall

Antebellum mansion Selma, AL

This Greek Revival mansion was completed in the 1850s and now operates as a house museum. Staff and visitors have long reported footsteps, doors that open on their own and a figure at the upstairs windows, often attributed to a former owner, banker John Parkman.

Visiting: Offers guided daytime tours, with evening ghost events in some years; confirm hours with the museum.

Ghost stories are shared as folklore. Hours, tours and access change — always check with the site before you go, and never enter private or closed property.
