Haunted NE

Haunted places in Nebraska

Nebraska's ghost stories come from a frontier Army post with a painful history and from a wooded city park that has collected urban legends for decades.

Fort Robinson State Park

Frontier military post Crawford, NE

Fort Robinson was an Army post from 1874, the place where Lakota leader Crazy Horse was killed in 1877 and where many Northern Cheyenne died during an 1879 breakout. Visitors report phantom cavalry, footsteps and cold spots in the old buildings.

Visiting: State park with lodging, museums and history tours; check Nebraska Game and Parks for seasons.

Hummel Park

City park Omaha, NE

This wooded park on the bluffs above the Missouri River has collected legends for decades, including a staircase whose step count supposedly changes. Local historians note that the darker rumors have no factual basis, but the stories remain part of Omaha folklore.

Visiting: Public city park; visit during posted daytime hours.

Ghost stories are shared as folklore. Hours, tours and access change — always check with the site before you go, and never enter private or closed property.
