Haunted ND

Haunted places in North Dakota

North Dakota's ghost stories come from its frontier Army forts and early hospitals, where prairie winds and quiet nights set the mood.

Custer House at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park

Reconstructed military house Mandan, ND

Lt. Col. George Custer and his wife, Libbie, lived at Fort Abraham Lincoln before the 1876 Battle of the Little Bighorn; the house is a 1989 reconstruction. Guides and staff report taps on the shoulder and dishes that move, and the park hosts a well-known haunted attraction each October.

Visiting: State park with seasonal guided tours of the Custer House; check North Dakota Parks for hours.

Former St. Joseph's Hospital

Former hospital Dickinson, ND

St. Joseph's Hospital served Dickinson for more than a century, and the building now houses businesses as St. Joe's Plaza. Local stories include a sealed room and an illness that struck the nuns in 1926, and the building hosts a seasonal "Haunted Hospital" attraction.

Visiting: Commercial building; public access mainly during the seasonal haunted attraction, so check local listings.

Ghost stories are shared as folklore. Hours, tours and access change — always check with the site before you go, and never enter private or closed property.
