Haunted places in Minnesota

Minnesota's ghost stories come from small-town hotels and lakeside mansions, where long winters seem to keep the past close.

The Palmer House Hotel

Historic hotel Sauk Centre, MN

The Palmer House opened in 1901 on the site of the town's first hotel, which burned in 1900. Guests report children playing in empty halls, cold spots and figures in certain rooms, and the hotel has appeared on several paranormal TV shows.

Visiting: Operating hotel and restaurant; ghost tours are offered on some dates.

Glensheen Mansion

Historic estate Duluth, MN

Completed in 1908 for the Congdon family on the shore of Lake Superior, Glensheen is now a museum operated by the University of Minnesota Duluth. Visitors have reported unexplained sounds and an uneasy feeling in parts of the house.

Visiting: Museum with self-guided and guided tours year-round; check current hours.

Ghost stories are shared as folklore. Hours, tours and access change — always check with the site before you go, and never enter private or closed property.
